The base of the case has an oval shaped Lapis Lazuli stone as well. The case is jeweled with pave set multi color stones all through out. Lapis lazuli is an ancient gem, and as such, has a storied history. The very earliest cultures valued lapis lazuli more highly than gold. Greeks reffered to it as an ancient sapphire.
